Now that we know the Mind, Body and Spirit are connected, how will this new awareness change the way we manage our health?
First, we begin to see that our physical health is connected to every aspect of our lives. When we encounter some form of “dis-ease,” it’s not a random affliction. Chances are, we simply need to look a little deeper. There are five energetic fields, or “bodies,” to consider:
Spiritual -> Mental -> Emotional -> Etheric -> Physical
The Physical Body
Of the five, the Physical body contains the densest and most slowly moving energy, consistent with the material world in which it operates. It is also the only energetic field easily recognized by our physical senses–the one that we can all see, hear, smell, taste and touch.
Yet, as T. Harv Eker has said, “Your physical, material world, is nothing more than a printout” of the mental, emotional and spiritual areas of your life. Our thoughts, beliefs and expectations, charged with emotion and cultivated by a consistent focus, come to materialize in our bodies, relationships, and life experience over time.
The Law of Correspondence: Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world – as within, so without.
The Etheric Body
As we learned in school, every cell in our physical body is replaced once every seven years. The Etheric body is believed to hold the “blueprint” for this cellular regeneration. It uses patterns imprinted on our consciousness through physical and emotional experience, beliefs and genetic memory to construct the new cells. The Etheric body is also commonly associated with the “aura” and the astral, or dreaming, body (hence the idea of “astral projection.”)
The Mental, Emotional & Spiritual Bodies
All of our energetic bodies are connected. If we are unable to resolve and find peace with certain experiences mentally and emotionally, they may block and disturb the natural flow of life energy inside us. Unless we do something to intervene, these disturbances eventually manifest in our physical bodies and in our relationships with the world around us.
The Chakras
Powering all of the bodies is a system of energy centers running down the spinal column – commonly known as the Chakras (Sanskrit for “wheel” or “turning.”) They intersect all of the different bodies, or types of awareness. Optimal health is achieved when each of the chakras is open, balanced and aligned and the life force is flowing naturally. Imbalance in any one or more of the chakras causes a disruption to the natural flow of energy and may result in various physical, mental and emotional symptoms of dis-ease.
Each chakra is associated with a different frequency or rate of vibration, which can be seen to correspond with a specific musical note, color, word and image. Each governs specific organs, areas of the body and related aspects of life experience. For example: Physically, the fifth Chakra influences the health of the mouth, teeth, throat, thyroid gland and the immune system. Mentally and emotionally it holds your feelings and beliefs around speaking your truth, being heard, creative expression, writing and communication, among other things. Various techniques can be employed to diagnose, heal and balance the chakras, with powerful effects. For more information on the Chakras, see our upcoming series, “Wheels of Life.”
We are electrical beings, even at the cellular level. Our atoms are made up of positive and negative charges. Every system within our mind, body and in fact, the universe, is powered by electrical energy spinning at different rates–known as frequencies or vibration rates. When we are aware of our own natural vibrations and learn to be present to those hidden parts of the self, we begin to experience health as a whole being: Mind, Body and Spirit.
“The next major advance in the health of the American people will be determined by what the individual is willing to do for himself.” -John Knowles, Former President of the Rockefeller Foundation
True holistic health begins in the relationships we cultivate with ourselves. Happiness is an essential part of it. When we learn to break out of our comfort zones to discover and act on what it is that makes us feel truly alive, we become whole again. Even for a moment. And that is the very definition of health.
